DARIEN Just 50 minutes from the hub of Manhattan, Darien is an attractive blend of comfortable seaside living and easy travel to the corporate world- making it a popular choice for executives and professionals and their families. Settled in 1645 and formally incorporated in 1850, the seclusion and beauty of Darien were well-kept secrets until 1920 when affluent artists and writers discovered the natural splendor of this coastal site. Since then, Darien has grown into a prosperous community, rich with history and enjoyment, and dedicated to the promotion of education, cultural/social development, and conservation of natural resources. Darien's public school system is comprised of five elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. An accelerated curriculum and specialized education is provided for the gifted and disabled. Higher education is available in the area at Fairfield University, University of Connecticut at Stamford, and Norwalk Community Technical College. For more information on Darien's Schools- go to my School Information Page. The town's exceptional coastline and inland beauty provide many ideal spots for varied styles and sizes of homes. The Noroton and Tokeneke houses and homes of contemporary design are found throughout Darien. Enchanting beach cottages dot the coast. A center of constant activity is the Darien Library, which boats 133,000 volumes and the highest per capita circulation in Connecticut. Some features are the wonderful Children's Library, State of the Art Technology, over 200 periodicals and computer training for the public to better utilize the library. Leisure and sporting activity abound in Darien. The town's pristine beaches provide ample swimming, water-skiing, windsurfing and sunbathing. Boating and fishing enthusiasts are well served by public and private marinas and clubs. In addition, Darien supports many public recreation facilities, including an excellent park system and athletic leagues for all ages. Equestrian sports are particularly popular in town, and the Ox Ridge Hunt Club sponsors an annual qualifying show for the National Horse Show. The annual Town Art Show exhibits the work of local professional arts and an active Historic Society is based in the 1736 Bates-Scofield Homestead. Request my Free Darien Relocation Package. Animal House >Houses and Pets
Many real estate agents are animal lovers and have pets of our own, but we have all shared stories of having our fingers or ankles nipped by furry creatures during a showing. We have opened the front door to the home we are showing only to have a purebred Persian kitten scoot toward the nearest busy street.
If you have pets and are going to put your house on the market, be sure to work out the showing arrangements carefully. It is important for us to be able to communicate to our colleagues what to expect when they pass through your front door. It is rare for pets to pose significant problems, but big dogs can be menacing. Buyers or agents may be allergic or even a little phobic about dogs or cats.
It is difficult to get a buyer excited about your home if he or she is sneezing continuously or unwilling to cross the threshold because your dog is barking away intruders. If your agent knows there might be a problem, they can arrange ahead of time for you to walk the dog, vacuum the cat dander or do whatever is necessary to make sure that the showing goes smoothly.
